Collaboration Techniques
Reaching Consensus (Coming to Agreement) and Practicing Good Teamwork
  • Include parts of everyone's idea in the final product. Combine ideas.
  • Take a vote. Majority rules. Possible strategies:
    • Make a ballot for all ideas.
    • Thumbs up, Thumbs down
    • Hand count
    • Rock, Paper, Scissors
    • Pick out of the Hat
    • Flip a coin
  • Share all ideas and discuss them until everyone agrees on a plan. Make sure each person gets a chance to share their ideas and explain why their ideas are good. Treat different ideas respectfully.
  • Feel free to compromise.
  • Consider throwing out the idea(s) that no one can agree upon, and come up with a new one.
  • Pick out each person's top 3 ideas and use them in the final product.
  • Stay focued on the topic, not just my "side."
  • Disagree with ideas, not people.
  • Be a good active listener.
  • Try to see things from the other person's point of view.
  • BE POSITIVE!
  • Speak to the group and not to individuals.
  • Praise others ideas.
